Launch of a campaign against drug addiction in Kozhikode
The Kozhikode district administration is launching “Puthulahariyilekku”, a year-long awareness campaign against drug addiction, next week.
District Collector N. Tej Lohit Reddy told media Thursday that the campaign will seek to encourage healthy habits and activities that make people happy. The effort would be to wean people off substances such as drugs and alcohol and engage them in new passions in life. Ahead of its official launch on June 27, approximately one million university students across 100 campuses will be asked to “vote” for something they’re passionate about. Voting will take place from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
Students will be given a ballot in which options such as arts and culture, sports, food, travel, drugs and alcohol, reading, social services, movies, and friendship will be given . They must tick one of the boxes. Mr Reddy said students would be required to stick to whatever activity they choose. He added that the district administration planned to target other sections of society as well in later phases of the campaign.
Rallies will be organized from different parts of the district. They will culminate at Samudra Auditorium, West Hill on June 27 to mark the official launch of the campaign. A vehicle will also visit panchayats and Assembly constituencies to spread the message. Various government departments and local organizations will be involved in the campaign.
